blog uses Snipd to grab and share interesting snippets.
Instead of a plugin, Snipd relies on bookmarklets - special bookmarks that can be dragged into a browser’s shortcuts toolbar, but don’t require any installation. And to further streamline the process, Snipd doesn’t require users to create accounts before they get started (they’ll be randomly assigned a user name until they pick one that’s more personal).

One of Snipd’s best features is its ability to retain formatting for text that gets clipped. Most other clipping sites either copy plain text (without any formatting) or static images, which makes them impossible to search.Snipd will usually preserve formatting, so your text will look the same as it did on the original webpage.Snipd also allows users to clip most streaming videos, which can be played back from within My Snips. This could be especially appealing for sharing videos using the aforementioned follow system, as users won’t have to visit a new YouTube or Hulu page to watch the next movie in a feed.

To monetize Snip, Schliker says that the site isn’t relying solely on advertising, explaining that the company is currently in talks to have Snipd act as an instant way to send a web clip to someone’s social network profile or blog. There are already a few ways to do this (for example, Facebook offers its own “Share This” bookmarket), but it’s nice to see that the startup is exploring other options beyond AdSense.

Great review by TechCrunch!  Follow our blog for updates as we make Snipd and Stripd (soon to launch) the best way to grab bits and pieces of pages.

Free web-clipping tool Snipd, one of the 10 up-and-coming products that intrigued us at this year's start-up conferences, has opened its doors to public sign-ups. The service works through a bookmarklet that puts mouse-over clipping icons on text, images, or embedded Flash, and stores all the content on a Tumblr -style page, though you can change the privacy settings for all or individual items. You also get RSS feeds for your public content, and text fiends may love that Snipd keeps the formatting on any copy you grab.

Clipping via bookmarklet service Snipd launches
Snipd , a Web clippings service we profiled in September , has just opened up to everyone. Its claim to fame is that it lets you clip bits of the Web including text, images, and videos, all without having to download any software or register for an account. The first time you use it via its tiny bookmarklet, it simply creates an account for you, which can be claimed later on.
Snipd co-founder Alex Schliker tells me the amount of adult content Snipd has brought in has been so substantial that he and his partner Emil Gilliam are working on a separate site called Stripd that will house it all and keep it out of Snipd's public feed. This could end up getting the pair more traffic than Snipd, considering no-one has really filled that market niche.
Thanks for all the excellent feedback from the press.

Snipd had an amazing time at TechCrunch50 in September.  Thousands of people came and experienced Snipd in action.  We were later featured on Lifehacker as the #2 startup at both TechCrunch50 and DEMO.  CNET, WebMonkey, and an array of others covered Snipd as well.
